You’ve spent years working toward the body you want, paying careful attention to nutrition and exercising diligently, yet when you look in the mirror, you’re not quite happy with what you see. There are some body parts that just don’t seem to respond to exercise and diet. Common problem areas include:
- Flanks, aka love handles
- Abdomen
- Thighs
- Hips
- Under the chin
- Buttocks
- Face
If you’re feeling unsatisfied, Dr. Hannah Vu may be able to help. She performs a procedure called tumescent liposuction, which allows her to sculpt your body to the form you want.
Liposuction vs. liposculpture
Traditional liposuction is about removing fat, sometimes in large amounts. Liposculpture is more about body contouring and getting just the shape and look you want.
In some cases, liposculpture reveals the muscle beneath the fat. You may have worked for years to have a six-pack abdomen, but a layer of stubborn fat keeps it hidden. The musculature is there, and a liposculpting specialist like Dr. Vu can reveal it.
Liposculpting can provide the last necessary touch to give you the slim contour you’ve been working toward.
A less invasive technique
If you think of liposuction and imagine severe bruising and a long recovery, you’re envisioning traditional liposuction. At Skinzone Medical, Dr. Vu uses a procedure called tumescent liposuction, which is performed in the office using local anesthesia. You only need a few days to recover.
Tumescent liposuction involves the use of microcannula, which is the reason Dr. Vu doesn’t need to use general anesthesia and also why you recover more quickly from the procedure. A cannula is a hollow tube through which the fat is removed in traditional liposuction. A microcannula, as you’ve probably guessed, is a very small version of a cannula. The smaller instrument means there’s less trauma to your body during the procedure.
During tumescent liposuction, which is the method used most often at Skinzone Medical, Dr. Vu injects a special solution into the fat that you want to have removed. The solution makes it easier for the fat to be suctioned away through the microcannula.
Liposculpting and you
Not everyone is a good candidate for liposculpting. It’s important that you’re in good overall health, and you should be near your ideal weight. If you’re not, you may want to discuss other options with the staff at Skinzone Medical.
If you are a good candidate, you can expect to be awake and comfortable during the entire process. The length of time the liposculpting procedure takes depends on several factors, including the number of areas you’re having treated. You’re likely to have some swelling and minor bruising in the area where the work is performed, but it should fade within a day or two.
You can notice changes shortly after the procedure, but it may take a month or so for you to see the full result. The results of liposculpting are permanent in that the fat cells that are removed don’t come back; however, if you gain weight, remaining fat cells can grow larger. It’s important to maintain your diet and exercise regimen following the procedure.
