Exosome Injections Dr. Hannah Vu Santa Ana and Alhambra

Exosome injection is an aesthetic treatment that prompts healthy hair growth and skin rejuvenation. These solutions support cell regeneration and intracellular communication, (1) and are a stem cell derivative that improves necessary communication between cells, signaling functions like collagen production and wound healing. Exosome injections can enhance the skin’s texture, tone, and shine, or positively impact the hair growth cycle.

What are Exosomes?

Exosomes are very small extracellular vesicles (sac-like structures) secreted from most living cells in the body. They are made up of lipids, proteins, and the nucleic acids nRNA and DNA. These vesicles can modulate the function of their recipient cells to restore their functioning and regenerate or repair damaged skin tissue. (1) Exosomes do so by passing information from one cell to the other with signaling molecules. When derived from stem cells, exosomes provide many anti-aging benefits for increased skin and hair health.

These vesicles are extracted from bone marrow, placental, adipose, and umbilical cord tissue in a lab for aesthetic use. (1) Within regenerative medicine, exosomes can improve wound healing and cellular communication. Cosmetic providers utilize them to rejuvenate the skin as they provide many beneficial qualities including: (2)

  • High Stability
  • Small Size
  • Lack of Nuclei
  • Easy Production
  • Functioning RNAs
  • Long Preservation

All of these qualities allow exosomes to easily influence the cells around them after injection. They increase hair restoration by successfully elongating the follicles’ anagen phase, the step that consists of active growth within the hair life cycle. This gives the follicle a better chance at growing and strengthening during a very important phase of life, restoring a patient’s hair without surgical intervention. (3)

Exosome injections can be used for nonsurgical skin rejuvenation, scar revision, and hair restoration. (3) The procedure is simple and quick, often only requiring one or two visits to SkinZone. Patients commonly notice skin improvement after their first session, and their natural results become more noticeable over time. Patients can enjoy long-term revitalization of the skin after exosome injections. This treatment can improve their hairline or other thinning areas of the scalp, allowing them to avoid more invasive treatments.

Personal Consultation with Dr. Vu

Exosome Injections Dr. Hannah Vu Santa Ana and Alhambra

During your initial appointment at SkinZone, Dr. Vu will evaluate your skin and ask about your cosmetic desires. She will inquire about your medical history and current medications to get to know you better before creating a customized treatment plan. She will then explain the procedure process, major benefits, and other aspects of your plan in detail during this consultation. This will allow you time to ask any questions before booking your exosome injection appointment. At the end of this meeting, a member of our staff will assist you with scheduling your procedure.

Depending on the patient, there is a chance that Dr. Vu will perform the injections at the end of the consultation. If you qualify, she will prepare your injections and administer them before you leave.

Preparation

Before exosome injections, patients should avoid NSAIDs like ibuprofen and aspirin as these medications cause blood-thinning. Those who smoke tobacco and nicotine products should be willing to quit during treatment to prevent complications. Drink plenty of water leading up to and on the day of the procedure. If possible, patients should arrive at their appointment with a clean face free of makeup. Those who receive injections in the scalp should cleanse and dry their hair the morning of treatment. We provide all other preparation information during your private consultation.

Exosome Injection Treatment

Dr. Vu starts exosome injections by disinfecting the treatment area. She can then apply a numbing agent to the skin to keep you comfortable throughout the procedure. Once you are comfortable, she begins placing small, precise injections into your areas of concern. This treatment is minimally invasive, and she uses very thin needles to target certain areas safely and effectively.

Dr. Vu plans out exactly where to place her injections to achieve optimal results. For hair restoration, she focuses on the thinning areas to utilize and improve the lifecycle of the present follicles. Patients looking for skin rejuvenation receive exosome injections in the areas where they have a significant impact. She uses this technique to make sure the treatment is as effective as possible for each patient.

Recovery

After exosome injections, you may experience slight swelling, bruising, or tenderness around the injection sites. This subsides quickly and most patients return to work or daily activities directly after treatment. Continue to drink plenty of water to support your body’s healing mechanisms. Dr. Vu advises you to avoid alcohol and nicotine consumption during your recovery period. She provides more information on this process after your first appointment at SkinZone.

Results

Skin rejuvenation results improve as the skin develops more collagen and elastin. After several weeks, you will start to notice your skin tone evening out and your skin appearing healthier and revitalized. To preserve these results, you should wear sun protection whenever you are exposed to UV light.

After hair restoration treatments, you may see results within 1 to 2 months. The full effect will not be apparent until around 3 to 6 months after your appointment. Your hair will be thicker, fuller, and more noticeable as the thinning areas start to replenish new hair.

Corresponding & Complementary Treatments

Stem Cell-derived Regeneration Therapy

Like exosome injections, stem cell-derived regeneration therapy utilizes the power of stem cells to restore aging and damaged skin. Dr. Vu administers injections just beneath the skin’s surface in targeted treatment areas to induce collagen production. This therapy reduces wrinkles, restores the skin’s outer barrier, and enhances your complexion by replacing damaged cells with healthy ones. She may combine this treatment with other types of skin rejuvenation procedures like PRP to improve your results. Stem cell-derived regeneration therapy can also restore hair growth and treat inflammatory chronic pain.

FAQ

Which treatment is better: exosomes or platelet-rich plasma (PRP)?

Exosome injections deliver a higher concentration of growth factors than traditional PRP. They also have anti-inflammatory properties to increase tissue regeneration. The best treatment type depends on the patient’s circumstances and cosmetic desires.

Why are exosomes typically injected as opposed to topical application?

The local injection of exosomes typically provides more effective skin treatment than topical products because dermal injections skip the skin barrier. (3) This allows direct therapeutic benefits to the inner layers of skin that often lead to better results.

How often should I receive exosome injections to preserve my results?

Usually, this treatment works well with additional injections every 6 months to 1 year depending on the patient.

Is there any downtime associated with exosome injections?

No! Typically, patients do not experience adverse effects. At most, you should avoid putting excessive pressure on the treatment area for 3 to 4 weeks after your appointment.
